The paper deals with cost benefit analysis of a compressor standby system working in milk plant with preference of service, repair and replacement is given to recently failed unit. Failure in any compressor unit brings the unit to complete halt and effect the system seriously. It has been observed that unit can fail due to various types of failure which can be categorized as-serviceable type, repairable type and replaceable type. For analysis purpose, data for various rates for failure, service, repair and replacement have been collected from milk plant. Various reliability indices of the system effectiveness are estimated numerically and graphically by using semi Markov process and regenerative point techniques.
