India ranks 10th in the list of most forested nations in the world with 76.87 million ha of forest and tree cover. Like other forests of the world, our forests also provide critical ecosystem goods and services. In this paper we study the changes that have been occurring in forest covers of different states of India from the year 2001 to 2017 and in the nation as a whole. The negative changes in the forest cover indicate deforestation. The analysis of variance technique is used to compare and analyze the forest cover data over the years as well as over different States of India. Also regression equations are fitted for each States of India for the period 2001 - 2017 to study the trends of deforestation and compare the trends.
